Member Spotlight: Patty Constantin
Name: Patty Constantin
Title: Sports Information Director
Company: Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU)
How long have you been in your current position? 13 years
How long have you been a member of PRSA? 10 + years
Held any offices in PRSA/Chapter? (name if so) I have been part of the Awards Banquet Planning Committee.
What does PRSA mean to you? Although I am unable to attend many events because of my schedule, I do keep up with many of the members. Being a member is critical for public relations professionals because it gives us the ability to keep up with trends and to network with colleagues for advice on current situations. I also value the opportunity to submit awards for the Del Oro and El Bronce programs.
Hobbies or something unique that you do that you might would share: Although it is not well known among PRSA members, the Sports Information Director (SID) profession is something that many PR professionals should consider. We do the same tasks as those in PR do, but we do it for sports. I manage our website, write 5-10 articles a week, post on social media with several platforms, produce and edit 5-10 videos a week, interact with media, plan events and much more. The only downside is that the hours are insane and can sometimes require one to work seven days a week, 15-20 hours a day, depending on games scheduled; however, I enjoy it very much.
What is something that you would share to someone new going into PR? The most important thing someone should do as soon as he or she enters the workforce is to purchase the AP Stylebook and perhaps Grammarly (an online app that corrects your online work). They are important assets for me with everything I do.
