Gift of Guidance

Every year, the Public Relations Society of America San Antonio Chapter offers free public relations counseling to local nonprofit organizations through our annual Gift of Guidance program.

As we approach the holiday season, the Gift of Guidance program allows public relations professionals to give back to the community by sharing a special gift that only they can give – their expertise. It’s PRSA’s way of supporting charities and other organizations that contribute so much to the community.

Why the Gift of Guidance?

Nonprofit organizations address many crucial needs in the San Antonio region. But many small organizations do not have the staff or resources to develop strong communications programs to focus their messaging, leverage social media, raise their public profile and strengthen relationships with volunteers and other stakeholders.

Because communication with many audiences is vital to help nonprofits achieve their mission, PRSA San Antonio desires to help these organizations achieve their goals and make a positive difference in our community. To accomplish that mission, PRSA SA developed an annual program that offers public relations professionals an opportunity to serve the community by directly assisting several nonprofits with free communications counseling.

How it works

Six pre-selected 501(c) 3 organizations will receive a free counseling session during PRSA’s luncheon scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

PRSA members and other professionals attending the luncheon will provide an intensive public relations counseling session to the pre-selected nonprofits. The selected organizations may send up to two representatives to the luncheon. PR professionals will offer guidance about developing a basic public relations plan, as well as provide ideas for implementing the plan and fine-tuning media messages.

In order to become a candidate for participation in the 2016 Gift of Guidance program, an interested nonprofit must submit an online application. A committee of PRSA Board Members will review each application and select six nonprofit organizations.

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South Texas nonprofit organization with a designated 501(c) 3 nonprofit status. (Proof of non-profit status may be requested.)
  • The nonprofit organization does not have either a public relations professional on staff or access to support from public relations contractors.
