Accreditation (APR)

As the only recognized post-secondary certification program for public relations professionals, earning an Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credential is a valuable way for industry professionals to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) and commitment to excellence. The process draws upon professionals’ experience while enhancing their understanding of communications history, theories and models.

The Universal Accreditation Board oversees the APR process on behalf of the Public Relations Society of America and eight participating organizations. The process is recommended for candidates with five or more years of experience practicing or teaching public relations, and primarily consists of a peer panel presentation and a computer-based examination. Once completed, accredited members carry the designation "Accredited in Public Relations" (APR), signifying a high professional level of experience and competence.

PRSA San Antonio is committed to assisting South Texas public relations professionals interested in earning the APR. We routinely offer one-on-one mentoring to interested practitioners.

Accreditation in four steps
