Melissa Monroe-Young, APR, public information officer, at Northwest Vista College, has recently become an Accredited member of the public relations profession by successfully completing a comprehensive examination governed by the Universal Accreditation Board.

The Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations measures a candidate’s knowledge, skills and abilities in the practice of public relations, including communication theory, management science, and ethics.

Accreditation is a formal credentialing process for the public relations professional, and Monroe-Young now joins an elite group of more than 4,300 active Accreditation practitioners in the United States and abroad.

“The accreditation process is designed to provide a standard of knowledge and an ideal model for achieving optimum success in our profession,” said Monica Faulkenbery, APR, Accreditation Chairperson for the San Antonio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). “Monroe-Young's achievement is an affirmation of her skills and knowledge in the industry.”

Monroe-Young has been an employee with Northwest Vista for the past six years. Prior to that, she was a business journalist for about 13 years, working for the San Antoino Express-News and the San Antonio Business Journal. She co-founded the San Antonio Association of Black Journalists in 1998; and holds a master's degree from Our Lady of the Lake University and a bachelor's degree from Texas Woman's University.
