August 7 luncheon: Evolving Your Story Pitch for the Digital Age
PRSA welcomed the biggest crowd of the year to the August luncheon featuring James Aldridge, Digital Editor of the San Antonio Business Journal. Aldridge spoke on the evolving needs of reporters and editors in this digital-driven age of media. He talked about the role of the PR professional evolving, along with the role of the media professional. Other points made by Aldridge:
- The old model of simply sending out a media advisory and news release is outdated.
- For digital, it means pitching stories that are shorter, easy to understand and readily explain the “so what” factor.
- Digital stories must have strong visual elements.
- Releases should be SEO-friendly.
- PR pros need to pay attention to Google Trends/Analytics.
The next monthly luncheon will be held on Thursday September 4. The topic is “What is our role in employer branding, ethics and values communication?” The speaker will be Marlene S. Neill, Ph.D., APR, an assistant professor at Baylor University. Marlene teaches courses in public relations, writing for new media, and advertising. The September meeting will be held in a new venue: the Omni San Antonio Hotel at the Colonnade. To register, go here.
