During our hour-long program, hear from three diverse, local social media influencers and learn the ins and outs of how earned and paid media works with this evolving area of the industry. All communication professionals are welcome to learn how to integrate their plans with this digital strategy!

Melanie Mendez-GonzalesMelanie Mendez-Gonzales is an online media entrepreneur, a speaker, and the creator of ¿Qué Means What? – a leading Latina lifestyle blog. In 2016, Melanie was recognized as the Best Latin@ Education Influencer by Latinos in Tech Innovation and Social Media (LATISM).

She has been named 2015 Texas-based Bloggers to Follow by FlipKey by Trip Advisor; 2014 American Latino Expedition Influencer by National Park Foundation; Top Bloguera by LATISM each year since 2013. Melanie is also one of San Antonio’s SA2020 ambassadors; the co-founder of Texas Latino Bloggers; and a founding member of the college-prep nonprofit STEM to Vine. 

ColleenColleen Pence began blogging in 2005. Her current and most successful blog, San Antonio Mom Blogs, reaches more than 50,000 San Antonio parents each month. Colleen works both ends of the blogger/social media spectrum.

As a blogger, she's worked with national brands to bring awareness and attention to their products and services, including Walmart, Dr Pepper Snapple, The DoSeum, and many more. As a social media consultant, now working for Creative Noggin, Colleen has created and managed blogger campaigns and events for companies including CPS Energy, The San Antonio Zoo, Big Brothers Big Sisters South Texas and others.

Tori JohnsonTori Johnson is the owner of sTORIbook Public Relations, fashion and lifestyle blogger of The sTORIbook, as well as commercial and editorial stylist. She was just voted San Antonio Fashion Blogger of the Year in 2015 and 2016 and was named one Neiman Marcus’ Women Who Rock and served on their panel for their 2015 Project Beauty event.

She has worked with a bevy of top names including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, H&M, Lancôme, Armani Exchange, David Yurman, Target, and many more. In addition to her roles as public relations professional and blogger, Tori serves as the host of The Society Diaries TV and is the style and digital editor for The Society Diaries Magazine.

Melissa Vela-Williamson, CAAM, is the Chief Communication Architect of MVW Communications is an award-winning practitioner with over 13 years of general market and multicultural integrated marketing communications experience in agency, corporate and nonprofit settings. Today, she serves clients as the Chief Communication Architect of her own practice, MVW Communications. As a fully integrated communicator, she has directed marketing communication strategy for brands such as H-E-B, La Familia Cortez Restaurants, Zachry Corporation and many more.

In addition to external relations work, she is also a communication coach for corporate clients who want to hone their interpersonal skills or shape their personal brand. Melissa has won industry awards at both the campaign and individual levels, including a PRSA Horizon and Professional of the Year. She has been involved in the PRSA San Antonio Chapter since the beginning of her career and has held multiple positions, including the role of president.
